Hay & Co Studio began as a feeling before it became a business.
For years, through my work as an interior designer, I have seen how much the finishing touches can transform a home. A room can have beautiful furniture, thoughtful lighting and all the right foundations, but it is often the softer, more personal layers that make it feel complete. The cushions, textiles, artwork and collected details are what bring warmth, personality and a sense of ease.
Cushions have always played an important role in my interiors. They can introduce colour without overwhelming a room, soften a more structured space and bring together all the different elements within a scheme. But I often found it surprisingly difficult to source cushions that felt special, beautifully made and easy to combine.
I wanted pieces that were refined but not overly formal. Patterned, but still calming. Luxurious, while also feeling comfortable enough for everyday family life. Most importantly, I wanted cushions that could work together naturally, without people having to second-guess whether the colours, patterns and textures belonged in the same room.
That idea slowly became Hay & Co Studio.
The concept was to take the way I approach an interior design scheme and translate it into a thoughtfully curated cushion collection. Each design would have its own character, while still forming part of a broader story. The colours would speak to one another, the patterns could be layered together, and the entire collection would feel considered without ever feeling too perfect or overdone.
The journey from that first idea to creating an actual collection has been filled with sketches, colour revisions, fabric samples, conversations, decisions and plenty of learning along the way. Each design began by hand and has been brought to life in collaboration with skilled artisans in India, celebrating the texture, variation and beautiful imperfections of traditional craftsmanship.
Building Hay & Co Studio has allowed me to bring together so many of the things I love: interiors, colour, pattern, storytelling and the beauty of the handmade. It has also given me the chance to create pieces that I genuinely want to use in my own home and in the homes I design.
There is still so much to share as the collection comes to life, and I am incredibly grateful to have you here at the beginning.
